A63 Castle Street: Chamber boss calls for financial help to…

The head of the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce has called for a £1m fund to support local businesses following the A63 Castle Street delay. Just when it appeared the end was in sight for the £350-million road improvement project, National Highways announced an extra year will be needed to complete the project, with work now expected to finish in Spring 2026. Though the scheme's project manager apologised for the delay citing “very challenging ground conditions”, there has been disappointment around the city over the new expected completion date. Dr Ian Kelly, chief executive of Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, a body that voices the interests of local business, has now called for funding to be provided to help support businesses that may be adversely impacted by the delay. Dr Kelly said: “This is not the Christmas present we wanted from National Highways and this terrible news will put Hull’s business community under even more pressure at a time when many are struggling to cope with increased trading costs after the recent Budget. &
