The A63 will be closed until Saturday morning “at the earliest” due to emergency bridge repairs, managers have said. National Highways, the agency responsible for maintaining the road, said that a “defective bridge joint” had been discovered during a routine inspection of the bridge, which carries the road over the St Andrew's Quay junction, last night. Engineers are now working to assess and repair the joint as soon as possible The closure of the westbound carriageway led to long delays this morning, with tailbacks reaching King George Dock at one stage.
