Part of the A63 in Hull has been closed both ways, following reports of a car on fire. Humberside Police reported just after 10pm that both carriageways were closed between North Ferriby and Hessle. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area at this time and diversions are in place. Read more stories on traffic and travel here. A police tent has been spotted at the scene, surrounded by emergency service crews. Drivers report the incident remains ongoing, and they have remained in standstill traffic for almost two hours. A witness has shared photographs of a car on fire on the A63 (Image: Lewis Freeman) What Humberside Police have said The force reported just after 10pm that both the East and Westbound carriageways on the A63 are closed. They said: “Due to Road Traffic Collision the A63 East and Westbound carriageways are closed in both directions from North Ferriby to Hessle turn off. “Please avoid the area where possible.” Hull Live has contacted the force for more information. Emergency services on scene.” One witness, who has been sitting in built up traffic on the A63 since 10.20pm spotted “large flames”. They said: “Loads of traffic has built up on the A63, and there’s huge flames. “There are lots of emergency services very close the the petrol station where I can see a fire outside of the petrol station.” Emergency services on the scene Emergency services were reported to be at the scene around 10.20pm. One hour later, a witness said Humberside Fire and Rescue “extinguished” a car on fire. Crews were spotted gathered by a red tent on the carriageway around 11.20pm.' One witness reported: “Police have got a tent up outside the garage on westbound carriage way opposite the east bound garage. “We could be sat here for a few hours, I was told by one guy said who got out of his car and walked down.” Another witness reported: “About 10.10 a car was on fire. Loads of police, and the fire service came. There were two investigators, and someone said there were four to five cars involved.” Traffic at a standstill and diversions in place Vehicles travelling along part of the A63 are at a standstill following the closure of the carriageways between North Ferriby and Hessle. One witness said he hasn't moved “for an hour”, while another reported they had been in the “same position for two hours and not moving”. National Highways for Yorkshire have shared that traffic is being diverted both East and Westbound on the A63. Eastbound traffic is being diverted via the hollow diversion triangle symbol,
