Almost 2,000 people object to Beverley rubbish dump as crunch…

Objections have been flooding in ahead of a decision on whether a new rubbish dump will be built in Beverley. Plans for the new household waste and recycling centre in Ings Road off Grange Way, Molescroft will go before East Riding Council’s Planning Committee on Thursday, March 30. The council unveiled the plans in October to replace the current tip at Weel, which officials said is too small and regularly floods. But 1,917 objections have been lodged over fears roads would become congested and the site is only a few hundred metres away from residents’ homes and a children’s nursery. It is designed to handle 9,000 tonnes of waste a year, enough to keep up with the future growth of Beverley’s population. The site would operate from 7.30am to 6pm every day, except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. It would be open to people living in the East Riding with a waste permit from 10am to 5pm each day and until 4pm during winter. The site would be manned by four workers at any one time and five on weekends and other busy periods, with the re-use shop employing a further three. Documents stated the Weel site is currently the fourth busiest of the East Riding’s 10 tips but expanding it is not an option. They added the site off Grange Way was the best option of all those that council officials looked at.
