A main street in Hull city centre is now shut for a fortnight to allow for major gas works to be carried out. . Lowgate, where Hull Crown Court is located, is closed to allow for “urgent gas mains replacement”, according to the latest information available on One Network. The closure is expected to last until June 18 and has led to raised concerns within business owners who fear another set of roadworks could have an affect on trade. In a tweet, one Hull business owner said: “As if the traffic in Hull could not get any worse. BOOM more road works, this time Lowgate. Great move.” Road users in Hull have put their concerns to the council about the amount of roadworks in the city, in turn playing their part in the congestion. But Hull City Council say it's part of their commitment to improve travel in and around Hull, alongside a number of other projects to upgrade and maintain utilities in the city – such as the gasworks on Lowgate. It comes after weeks of gridlocked traffic in the city and pleas from road users for the council to stop the multiple roadworks happening at all at once and to reopen a second lane on major roads.
