Birmingham has its famous Spaghetti Junction, a mass of intertwined roads where the M6 motorway meets the A38 Aston Expressway in the Gravelly Hill area of the city. It seems Hull also has a road layout that’s almost as much of a head-scratcher, for some motorists at least. It can be found on Bransholme at the junction of Bude Road and Tiverton Road – and in recent days it has been causing quite a debate. It started with a post in the Hull Traffic and Travel Facebook group, when one member, Ryan, erroneously described the mind-bending road layout as a “Hale special” – a reference to the former Labour council leader who some motorists blame for controversial segregated cycle lanes. As others were quick to point out, the junction is many decades old. Tony said: “Have I missed something because I've checked and checked again and as far as I can see Daren Hale has never been in charge of the roads in Hull.” Lynn added: “This junction was in place at least 40 years ago! So the inference to it being done while Daren Hale was in office is a complete nonsense.” And Neil Oloughlin joked: “Used properly it’s a good-flowing junction.
