Changes being made to ‘complicated’ section of Ferensway bus lane
A section of the bus lane on Ferensway in Hull has now been altered after being found to be “complicated” for motorists with additional signage also set to be introduced to “make it even clearer”. Instead of continuing all the way to the Portland Place junction, the bus lane now stops about half way between Lombard Street and Portland Place. Vehicles can now enter the left-hand lane to turn into Portland Place ahead of the turn-off. Meanwhile, new signs are set to be introduced on Ferensway and Lombard Street in the New Year. As previously reported, numerous motorists have received Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) after travelling on the stretch between Lombard Street and Portland Place since 2021, with a number of cases later heard by the Traffic Penalty Tribunal (TPT) after some drivers disputed their penalties. These included Mark Fleming who received a PCN on Ferensway while visiting Hull for a wedding in June. Mr Fleming had turned onto Ferensway from Lombard Street, accidentally entering the bus lane during a time when it was active. He then travelled the short distance to the Portland Place junction where he turned off. After appealing his PCN, Mr Fleming recently won his appeal at the Traffic Penalty Tribunal. In Mr Fleming's case, the TPT found that the “signage [on Lombard Street] is inadequate to inform motorists of the restriction before they have entered the bus lane”. The bus lane sign
