Red light jumpers are to be targeted with new cameras in a bid to reduce collisions on one of Hull’s busiest junctions. More than £240k in funding has been provided by Safer Roads Humber to allow Hull City Council to install four red light enforcement cameras on all approaches to the Holderness Road and Mount Pleasant junction. The technology will also detect drivers who speed through the junction. The scheme aims to reduce accidents at the junction which is consistently in the top five worst-performing junctions in Hull for injury collisions. Over the last five years there have been 23 recorded collisions, eight of which were because of “disobeying automatic traffic signal” with one recorded as serious. Installing red light enforcement cameras on dangerous junctions is an effective way to reduce the number of collisions and injuries on the road. “The cameras will also help enforce traffic rules and deter drivers from running red lights – this will make the junction safer for everyone, including pedestrians and cyclists.” The funding for this scheme was awarded to Hull
