The Hull ‘rerd werks’ saga continues with the firm behind the tongue-in-cheek traffic sign receiving an anonymous ransom note. Just last month, the second joke sign created by civil engineering firm M.B. Roche, which reads “Yer Jerking Merr Rerd Werks”, was stolen from Beverley Road between Hessle and Anlaby. Director Daniel Roche went on BBC Radio Humberside to talk about the mysterious disappearance and offered a reward of two patty butties for its safe return. Yesterday, an update in the case put a smile on people’s faces when the company received a ransom note through the post, with a picture of the second sign and a newspaper dated February 21 – a day after Daniel’s radio appearance. Unfortunately for the director, the culprit rejected his offer of two patties and spelled “Sign is safe! I don’t like patties!” in cut-out letters.
