Reconstruction works on Clarence Street began on November 11. Before the start of the £240,000 scheme, city council officials said they hoped to finish the works before Christmas depending on weather conditions. However, the poor state of the road rather than adverse weather has ended up causing an overrun. Engineers are still on site and the scheme is not due to be completed until mid-February. The partial closure of the normally busy route between Witham with Great Union Street during the works has caused heavy traffic congestion in surrounding areas at peak-times over the past two months.
