‘Devastating’ deaths on Hull roads sparks hard-hitting film about motorbike…

A powerful documentary will show how a “split-second moment of adrenaline” from joyriding can leave friends and families broken when loved ones die far too young. The film, Impact: The Left Behind, was the idea of PCSO Dawn Brown who is still deeply affected by the death of 26-year-old Macauley Hatch in 2021. She previously spoke about how she held him as he died and told him he’d be OK. In our area, 40 people are lost to fatal crashes each year and many of those deaths are youths who take part in TWOCing, according to Humberside Police. The word is an acronym for “taking without consent”, more commonly referred to as “joyriding”. Only a few weeks ago, two more boys lost their lives in similar circumstances. Macauley is just one of many stories we could have told. “I was the first emergency service person on the scene on September 5, 2021, and I will never forget the words I spoke to him. His family are devastated by his loss, and they will never come to terms with it. I really hope that I do not have to go to another road traffic collision where someone’s son, brother, or friend, loses their life.” She added: “I hope this documentary makes our young people stop and think before getting on that motorbike or in that car. No one should lose their lives for that split-second moment of adrenalin.” Floral Tributes left at the scene of a motorcycle crash in Hall Road, Orchard Park, which left Kane McBride and Adam Wright dead (Image: GNP LTD) The event, which takes place close to where Macauley lost his life, is free to attend, with the 12-minute video being played at hourly intervals starting at 6:30
