Doncaster Sheffield Airport: Major step forward in reopening airport

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is set to reopen with a funding package of £138million. The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has given the green light for the next big step in bringing back the region's airport. The airport, which closed its doors in 2022 following a strategic review by owner Peel Group, is now on track to reopen. Despite initially refusing to sell the site, Peel has agreed to consider a leasehold agreement with a new operator. This approval allows Doncaster Council to use £138million from SYMCA funding to negotiate a leasehold agreement with potential investors. The outline business case (OBC) will now move forward to a full business case, paving the way for the council's South Yorkshire Airport City (SYAC) plan.
