Doncaster Sheffield Airport: Plane lands for first time since closure…

A plane has landed on the runway of Doncaster Sheffield Airport ahead of its planned reopening. The airport shut two years ago, with its then-operator Peel Group saying it didn't make enough money. But City of Doncaster Council has been working to get the airport running again and gave permission for the plane to land at the site on Friday. Mayor Ros Jones observed the aircraft – a 1977 Piper Panther PA31 Navajo plane used for search and rescue – as it touched down on the runway. It is owned by aerospace company 2Excel which still operates a hangar employing 150 people at the site. The plane will be permitted to stay at the airport for winter maintenance. It is hoped Doncaster Sheffield Airport will reopen in spring 2026, but a new operator has still to be announced. Mayor Ros Jones said it heralded a change in the airport&
