Motorists using the Tesco car park at St Stephen’s shopping centre claim they have been fined despite validating their parking. Several people have complained they received fines at the Hull city centre car park despite spending more than £5 at the supermarket and then using the machines to validate their parking. However, Tesco insists they are working correctly and anyone who believes they have received a fine in error can appeal. The machines were introduced in 2016 allowing Tesco shoppers to park for up to two hours, though some issues have been reported with their operation during this time, including a lengthy period when they were out of action in 2022. She posted: “Has anyone recently had a parking fine from Apcoa for parking at St Stephen’s while shopping in Tesco? We've had two now and 100% definitely validated the ticket before leaving! “We went in to Tesco yesterday about the first one and was told that they would sort it and that there had been another identical incident. Now we've got another one today! It's too coincidental now and there has to be a glitch in the system.” She then posted an update claiming Tesco has “acknowledged that there has been an issue with the validation machines” and advised others affected by the issue to contact the retailer to attempt to resolve the matter. Tesco told Hull Live motorists who believe they have been incorrectly fined should “go through the appeals process that APCOA has in place”. Meanwhile, Bob Hayes said he had experienced a similar problem but says he cannot prove he validated his parking. He said: “I had one for October 2. Used this car park hundreds of times with no problem. 100% convinced I didn't do anything wrong this time but I can't prove it.
