Drivers say they were left furious and delayed after a major Hull road closed without warning. Commuters were left frustrated when they approached Bankside to discover that the road had been closed in both directions from Air Street to Innovation Drive. The closure on Friday came just over a week after nearby Wincolmlee was reopened after more than four months of repairs to the main gas network.  Many firms had said the closure between Air Street and Fountain Road had a damaging impact on passing trade for local businesses . Many drivers on Friday were left angry and confused after nearby Bankside closed without warning, especially given it had only been a week since the neighbouring stretch had been re-opened.  A car forced to do a three-point turn due to the unexpected closure (Image: Peter Harbour) One man, who contacted Hull Live on Facebook, said: “Bankside in Hull is shut. No road signs on Bankside or Clough Road roundabout advising. “What the hell is going on. No previous warnings.” Another vented his frustration out on Twitter, saying: “#bankside in Hull closed again absolute p***take it was just opened!!!” The road closure caused disruption to rush-hour traffic with congestion building up between Stoneferry Road and Ferry Lane.  Northern Gas Networks are currently working on the road (Image: Peter Harbour) The road was closed due to a gas leak which needed to be repaired by Northern Gas Networks.  They said the repairs were carried out through Thursday night and reinstatement of the road is now taking place and should have been completed on Saturday, and the road re-opened.
