Drivers trapped in four miles of gridlocked traffic as van bursts into flames on A63

Drivers are facing huge four-mile delays after a van burst into flames on one of East Yorkshire’s major roads. The white van was seen alight on the westbound carriageway of the A63 near the South Cave junction, forcing the road to narrow to one lane. Two fire engines were called to the scene and police also had to attend as the fire ripped through the vehicle which was abandoned at the side of the carriageway. Drivers on their morning commute faced “35 minutes” of delays which tailed back as far as North Ferriby. The fire happened close to South Cave, between the junction for the village and the Welton turnoff. One lane of the A63 is blocked Dramatic pictures showed the flames billowing across the dual carriageway as drivers diverted their commutes to avoid the area.
