Works needed to restore Hull's Drypool Bridge “will require considerable resources” but are “essential” to ensure it can continued to be used in years to come. The bridge was subject to an emergency closure in April to allow for investigations and survey work of the historic structure. It was concluded the bridge is safe to use while major repairs are planned which could take several months. Cllr Mark Ieronimo, the cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, recently joined Hull City Council's bridges team at the Clarence Street crossing to gain a first-hand understanding of the extensive design, repair, and strengthening works required. Cllr Ieronimo said: “This visit highlights the significant task ahead of us. We are fully aware of the historic challenges this bridge has faced, and we are committed to resolving these issues comprehensively. “This project will require considerable resources, but it is essential for the safety and efficiency of our transport network. We are dedicated to doing the repair work properly, ensuring that the bridge remains a reliable part of our infrastructure for generations to come.” The council is working closely with contractors Esh Construction Limited and Mason Clark Associates on the project. Their teams are currently undertaking detailed investigations of the bridge's condition and preparing the schedule for the main repair and strengthening project. Mason Clark Associates are also lending their expertise to the design phase of these works, ensuring that the bridge's historic charm and character is preserved while adhering to modern safety standards.
