Emergency services were called to a major collision on the M62 in East Yorkshire on Wednesday during which two heroic individuals were seen rescuing a girl from a flaming lorry. The crash happened shortly after 10am when a car and a lorry collided on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 35 and 36 near Goole, resulting in the vehicles setting on fire. Humberside Police have been at the scene but have yet to confirm whether anyone was injured. Both carriageways were closed through most Wednesday (April 6), although the westbound side re-opened later in the afternoon. The eastbound carriageway remained closed into the evening whilst traffic officers carried out their investigation. Shortly later, at around 10.30am, the motorway was closed in both directions to allow emergency services onto the scene. Video footage showed fire at the scene of the crash although Hull Live is not publishing this while the investigation is ongoing. The closures have resulted in major delays on both the M62 and the M18 as drivers took the alternate route to go the long way around the Humber estuary, avoiding the traffic. The closure was later extended to the M18 highway to prevent traffic from coming in on the slip road. Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Humberside Police were both called to the scene, while Humberside Fire & Rescue Service also were summoned to put out the vehicle fire, but stated the incident was a police matter. Collision investigators were at the scene for most of the day and a screen was erected around the incident. At time of writing, police have not released any updates into the conditions of the drivers and any passengers.
