False car theft and drugs offences among six arrests after horror police car crash on M62

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed six people have been arrested after a serious M62 road traffic collision. A police officer miraculously survived a horrific crash during a late-night high-speed chase. Read more crime news from Hull and the East Riding by clicking here. The crash happened when two police vehicles tried to stop a Seat car as it headed along the eastbound carriageway of the M62 near West Cowick at 11.24pm on Friday (September 3). One of the police cars left the carriageway and smashed into the Finney's Lane bridge. Harrowing pictures captured the wrecked police car where a member of the force suffered serious leg injuries. A red Seat Ibiza – which police were attempting to stop when the crash happened – was also destroyed. Investigators were closely examining the scene and police dogs were brought in to scour the nearby area. One witness who saw the aftermath of the crash described seeing the air ambulance and a number of fire engines at the scene. Police have now issued an update on the incident. A spokesperson said: “This is an update after a road traffic collision on Friday night as West Yorkshire Police Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the M62 eastbound as it entered the Humberside area. Six people have since been arrested (Image: Sean Stewart) “During the incident the vehicle and two police vehicles were in collision and one of the police vehicles left the carriageway and struck a bridge stanchion. “A police officer suffered serious leg injuries as a result. “Four people from the non-police vehicle were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and have since been released on bail. “Another two people were arrested on suspicion of falsely reporting a car stolen.
