An eight-week closure of a busy commuter route between Hull and Cottingham has left nearby residents worried about how they will get about. Work to repair poor carriageway surfacing in Priory Road in west Hull started on Monday, August 2. Read more: Arrest made as 'dangerous' driver ditches car after police chase The improvement works will be carried out in two phases over the summer holiday period with Hull City Council highways officials saying the staged approach is designed to minimise disruption to residents and motorists. The neighbourhoods either side of Priory Road are densely-populated while the road itself is normally an important bus route. Diversions have been put in place for the duration of the scheme. Turning right into Priory Road from County Road North is temporarily banned But one 65-year-old resident said she was worried about the impact the closure would have on elderly and vulnerable people living in the area who rely on nearby bus routes. She said: “I work at Hull Royal. I’m going to have to be leaving the house a hell of a lot earlier now to get to the nearest place to catch a bus. “The thing is it isn’t just the residents on Priory Road. It is everyone in the housing estates around here and there is a big elderly community. To sign up for the Hull Live newsletter, click here. “A lot of these people have mobility issues and closing the road like they are is going to leave some people housebound if they’re not careful. “I just don’t feel like we’ve been consulted about the closure at all, the first I heard about it was through other people and it already seemed too late to make a complaint. “They’ve not thought about the residents at all.
