Frightened Spring Bank West flood victims ‘taken straight back to 2007’ as street submerged in water

Gallons of water submerged Spring Bank West last night, on October 28, after a pipe suddenly burst before 9pm. It followed torrential rain and flash flooding in the east of the city on Sunday. The street was closed off by police with residents left stranded in their homes this morning as water continued to rise while firefighters desperately tried to resolve the problem. The flood water has since subsided but Spring Bank West remains closed as Yorkshire Water continued to work on the burst pipe. It is likely to remain shut for the rest of the week. One couple who live on the street had seen this all before after they were victims of the floods in 2007. Stephen and Katherine Sharpe said “it was frightening” to think they could once again lose their home after Willerby Road was flooded 12 years ago. Stephen and Katherine Sharpe had their home in Willerby Road flooded in 2007 Mr Sharpe, 66, said: “It was interesting, especially when you consider we used to live in Willbery Road. “I had just gone to bed and my lad came up and said the road is flooded. I got dressed and came down and thought oh dear oh dear. It was running from Walton Street towards the city centre. “It only came up to the kerb so it was not that much. My son rang me and I thought about what I was going to walk into. “Nobody is going to stop me getting to my house.
