A couple were turned away from a Hull hotel this weekend despite booking their room over two months before. Steve Bleasby, 58, and his partner turned up to the Royal Hotel, Hull, at around 5pm on Saturday to check in ahead of a concert at the Hull Bonus Arena. But no room was available for them and they were turned away. We wanted a cheap hotel to stay, or rather, that was cheaper than taking a taxi back.” “When we turned up the doors were locked. It was very frustrating at the time.” Steve Bleasby and his partner had booked a room at the Royal Hotel for the night of Saturday, November 6 “at least two months in advance” via Booking.com. But when they turned up, there was no room at the inn. (Image: Facebook) A member of Royal Hotel staff informed the couple, from Market Weighton, that there was no room to take the booking. Steve reported that they were told by the hotel staff member they should have received a prior email from Booking.com, notifying them of the change. The couple contacted Booking.com, who in turn said they had received no notification of the Royal Hotel being unavailable. “They said they were still taking bookings for the hotel,” said Mr Bleasby. By at least midday on Sunday, no room was available to book at The Royal Hotel, Hull, until at least January 1, 2022 on either Booking.com, or several other hotel booking websites. A staff member at the Royal Hotelconfirmed on Sunday that no bookings are available until January. Find local issues reported in your area The couple were forced to book last minute accommodation elsewhere. “It all worked out fine in the end, but if there were no hotels available in the area, we don't know what we'd have done,” Steve said.
