Gridlock on A63 and roads into Hull after serious accident closes road and causes traffic chaos

There was gridlock on roads west of Hull today after a serious accident on the A63 triggered traffic chaos. The accident on the westbound A63 between North Ferriby and South Cave happened just after 10pm and closed the A63 in both directions. Police, fire and ambulance all attended the incident which involved an unknown number of casualties and at least two vehicles. Humberside Police are expected to issue a statement on the crash later this morning. Follow live updates on the A63 incident here Diversions were put in place and the eastbound carriageway reopened at 7.30am but the incident continued to cause massive disruption to traffic entering and leaving Hull and on the Humber Bridge. Drivers reported delays of up to an hour in the slow moving traffic with further delays on surrounding roads. Footage westbound showed major delays westbound on the A63 Clive Sullivan Way approaching the Humber Bridge with up to a mile of queues. The accident is believed to have happened near North Ferriby on the A63 and triggered a major response by the emergency services which is continuing as efforts are made to clear the carriageway. Police accident investigators are also believed to have been on the scene since the early hours to determine the cause of the crash. It is thought the westbound A63 will remain closed for some time. Current diversions for westbound A63 traffic: Exit the A63 using Western Interchange and take the A15 Continue on the A15 for approx. 1 mile to the roundabout with the A164 At the roundabout, take the first exit on to the A164 Continue on the A164 for approx. 7 miles to the junction with the A1079 At the junction, turn left and merge with the A1079 and continue for approx. 10 miles At the roundabout, take the first exit on to the A1034 and continue for approx. 7 miles Rejoin the A63 westbound at the South Cave Junction For the latest Hull Live headlines direct to your inbox click here
