A Hull dad believes his family could have been organising his funeral after he was involved in a crash on an East Yorkshire road – all of which was caught in nail-biting footage on his dashcam. Nicholas Thackeray, 41, of Endike Lane, Hull, runs his own company providing trained security dog handlers for the private sector. He says he was driving from Bainton to Lund with his dog, Tank, on August 25, when he was involved in a crash in Kilnwick Road. Humberside Police say a driver has been issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) following the crash. Explaining what he believes happened, Mr Thackeray said: “I was driving home from York after a 12-hour night shift as a security dog handler, minding my own business. “I’ve driven that road hundreds of times. Out of nowhere came the Mercedes across my front. Nicholas Thackeray “I had no chance to avoid it at all. My first thought after the accident was the care for my dog who was caged in the rear.” He added: “If I had been a split second sooner, the Mercedes would have crashed into my passenger door or into the rear of my vehicle and hit my dog. “Neither of us would have walked away with 'minor Injuries'. My dog was totally unharmed and returned to work on the Friday after being checked over by vets.” Watch the dashcam footage in the video above. The other driver appears OK with no obvious signs of injuries. No ambulances were required on scene. “The accident is still having a knock-on effect with me and my family. They could have been organising a funeral this week. We are so lucky.” Nicholas Thackeray's vehicle (Image: Nicholas Thackeray) Mr Thackeray said he would advise motorists to “be careful”. “People just need to be careful on a morning as this crash was 100 per cent avoidable,” he said. “I hope this encourages others to think of what can just happen when they 'try to save time'.” Mr Thackeray also sent a clip of the dashcam footage to the Driving in Hull – Hull Road Share Facebook page and warned people to “always expect the unexpected”. Nicholas Thackeray's dog Tank (Image: Nicholas Thackeray) After watching the footage, the page told followers, if it had been a “split-second earlier”, the crash would have been “nasty”. “Thankfully me and the dog are relatively unscathed”, he told Driving in Hull – Hull Road Share. “Always expect the unexpected.” Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “A driver has been issued with a Traffic Offence Rep
