As we head into 2025, plenty of people will be asking how much a taxi will cost on New Year's Eve. Of course, the answer depends entirely on various factors. The time you're travelling, how far you're going and whether you're flagging down a black cab will all have an impact on the price of a taxi. Here, we take a look at how much you can expect to pay for a taxi on New Year's Eve. Uber operates on surge pricing, meaning in times of bad weather or rush hour, prices are expected to increase in line with demand for pickups. Because prices fluctuate in real time, surge charges can change quickly depending on where you are getting picked up from. Uber (Image: PA) Hackney Carriages ('black cabs') Hull area: Hackney Carriages, or black cabs, in the Hull area must abide by the Hull City Council rules – and should not be setting their own fees. Locally, it is in the rules that black cabs can add a small surcharge to set times during Christmas and New Year. In addition, if you take a Hackney Carriage between 11.30pm-6am, you will pay a slightly higher rate than if you take one during normal hours. A Hull City Council spokesperson confirmed the rates Hackney Carriages should be charging this period. There will be a £2.50 surcharge from 9:00pm on New Year’s Eve to 6:00am on 2 January.
