A Hull bus company is encouraging residents to “consider all the information” during a public consultation on returning bus lanes to peak times only, claiming the move could make travel problems worse around the city. The issue has sparked a huge debate amongst commuters since all-day bus lanes were introduced in 2020, with Hull City Council now consulting the public as to whether they should instead operate between 7am and 9.30am towards the city, and from 4pm until 6.30pm in the other direction. With the consultation open until the end of July, East Yorkshire Buses is urging motorists and bus users to think carefully on their stance. Among its claims, the company says that having bus lanes return to peak times could add an hour onto bus journeys. The firm also believes that having an unreliable bus service will sway bus users to find alternative ways to travel, adding to the volume of traffic on Hull roads. East Yorkshire Buses issued a statement asking bus users if they '”fancied adding an hour to their journeys” with them, and if not, they should consider some points.
