Hull drivers blame standing water and lighting for A63 safety…
The A63 in Hull has become notorious for crashes and gridlock, which has sparked calls from councillors for its safety to be assessed. National Highways is trialling a reduction of the speed limit from 70mph down to 60mph in some locations, which aims to reduce crashes and emissions. However, drivers in Hull say that it is rare to be able to get up to the speed limit with the traffic issues and other causes playing a bigger part in making the road unsafe. While many blamed a poor standard of driving, others highlighted issues such as standing water on the road, which doesn’t drain effectively. Some also added that the lighting has become a problem since switching to LED lights. Majority of the crashes don’t even happen at the speed limit, most of the time you be lucky to get up to the speed limit.” Many agreed that flooding was a root cause of safety problems. Haydn Reynolds said: “Maybe fix the drainage/water standing issue on the A63, as that is a big cause of the accidents. “The condition of the road is another, (it is) not the speed (that) is the problem here.
