Hull has one of the cheapest car parks in the UK for 24-hour parking

A car park on the edge of Hull city centre has been hailed as one of the cheapest in the UK for 24-hour parking. Motorists who want to leave their vehicle at the car park in Lime Street near North Bridge for 24 hours are charged just £2. The bargain fee, which applies to overnight parking, is only 20p dearer than the UK's cheapest 24-hour car park in Chester, according to global car comparison site EnjoyTravel.com in a survey of hourly and overnight midweek parking rates in locations within a 30-minute walk of a city centre. Other hefty overnight charges include £100 for 24 hours at Birmingham's Somerset House Garage and a £76.80 fee for a car park in Upper Street in the City of London. Signs at the car park bill it as a “Park & Stride” site, adding: “Park and stride to the town centre in just 10 minutes! “Save pounds on your parking and you could even lose a few pounds with your striding.” A spokesperson for EnjoyTravel.com said: “If you need to leave your car overnight in a car park, thankfully most car parks have special rates that work out cheaper than an hourly rate. Find traffic updates for your area “Infact, parking your car for 24 hours in Chester or Hull is cheaper than parking it for just an hour in most other cities.” The website also compared on-street parking charges in cities and, surprisingly, put Hull as the fifth most expensive location in the UK. However, Hull's £3 charge for a maximum of two hours is listed alongside hourly rates ranging from £5.10 per hour in the City of London and £4.60 per hour in Edinburgh to the tenth most expensive on-street parking spot in Lichfield at £2 per hour.
