The Humber Bridge Board has issued an apology for the chaos that has occurred on the bridge this weekend, after commuters were left stuck in traffic for sometimes hours. The board decided to carry out essential maintenance work on the Humber Bridge due to the good weather this weekend, and didn't anticipate the increase in traffic that the sun would bring. This, along with the bridge road being reduced to two lanes from four, and tag lanes being closed, meant that traffic piled up. Some commuters have experienced delays of over an hour on Saturday and Sunday, and have been left furious at the wait. Drivers coming from the South bank were able to make a quicker journey to the North bank today, but those travelling from Hull towards Barton still suffered horrendous queues of traffic. So, with better weather forecast for this weekend, we decided to go ahead with the vital work. “However, the sunshine enjoyed across the region meant traffic numbers were significantly higher than usual and this, along with the traffic management measures we put in place, led to significant delays.
