Kingswood drivers fear ‘three-month nightmare’ due to roadworks
People in Kingswood fear they face a three-month ‘nightmare’ after roadworks were announced on a major roundabout. Hull City Council recently announced that they would soon be undertaking works on the Wawne Road and Kesteven Way roundabout to make it safer for both pedestrians and cyclists. To improve traffic flow, the northbound approach to the roundabout on Wawne Road in Kingswood will be widened from one lane to three. The works, which start on Monday, January 23 and last for 12 weeks, will see a section of Wawne Road between Bude Road and Kesteven Way closed to northbound traffic for three weeks before reopening on Friday, February 10. On the Hull Traffic & Travel page, Leanne posted: “A section of Wawne road to be closed from 23rd of jan this is going to be a nightmare for us all 3 months of this.” Commenting, Sean wrote: “Simple solution is get rid of both of the zebra crossings outside the school (Kingswood) where there is a constant steady dribble of kids causing traffic nightmare and replace them with a pelican crossing so that the kids crossing will be controlled by the pelican crossing and cross in large groups i.e. the traffic flows for a 90 to 120 seconds then stops for 30 to 45 seconds to let the kids cross. “Or even cheaper option is that a teaching assistant from the school controls how the kids cross by grouping them together and they cross in batches instead of constant ones and twos so it gives the traffic time to move.” A diagram of the Council’s plans for the roundabout (Image: Submitted) Mike
