‘Lightning strike’ causing rail travel chaos with barriers stuck and…

There is chaos on trains across East Yorkshire after reported a lightning strike led to a power cut which means there are signalling issues and barriers are stuck. The barriers are reportedly stuck in Cottingham at both Thwaite Street and Northgate which is also causing major traffic congestion. That means bus services are also affected. Radio Humberside presenter James Hoggarth tweeted that he is stuck on a train at Beverley and speculated it may be down to a lightning strike. He said: “I’m on the 12:06 train which hasn’t moved out of Beverley yet. It sounds like damage has been caused due to a lightning strike not sure where.” Read more: 19-year-old sadly dies after three-car crash on A1079 in East Yorkshire National Rail has confirmed there is disruption on the Hull to Scarborough line and has warned travellers can expect delays. It says: A fault with the signalling system between Hull and Scarborough means trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 20 minutes or cancelled.
