Live as cyclist suffers ‘serious injuries’ in crash outside primary school

A cyclist has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a van outside an East Yorkshire primary school. Emergency services were called out to Main Road in Newport at around 10am this morning following reports that a cyclist had been hit. The injured cyclist has been taken to hospital for treatment and the road is closed off in both directions from Thimblehall Road to Hopwood Lane while police investigate the scene. A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “A female cyclist has suffered serious injuries as a result of a collision with a white Transit van in Main Road, Newport. “We were called to the scene by ambulance crews at 10am and the woman has been taken to hospital for treatment. “The road remains closed in both directions from the B1230 at Thimblehall Lane and Hopwood Lane whilst we investigate the circumstances of the incident. “Anyone with information is asked to call us on our non-emergency 101 line, quoting log number 153 of December 5.” You can follow live updates on this incident below. We tried to keep her stable and calm her down.“She wasn’t a unconscious. She said she wanted to sit up as she didn’t feel very well..“We kept her on the ground and we just sat with her until the ambulance arrived.
