Video LoadingVideo UnavailableA major part of the A63 will be closed this weekend, but the temporary wait will be well worth it. From 8pm on Friday, a new 150-tonne footbridge will be moved from its current site near the Bonus Arena into its final destination, linking the city centre with Hull Marina. The bridge itself is not expected to be moved until early Saturday afternoon, but road closures are in place from 8pm on Friday to allow for preparations. The closure will allow Highways England contractors to move the 150-tonne structure from the Myton retail park car park where it has been assembled over the past few months to its final destination between the southern end of Princes Dock and the Marina. Two giant remote-controlled transporters will be used to carry the 60 metre-long bridge the short distance along the A63 before swinging it into position. Drivers are being asked to find alternative routes as the major operation takes place, which will include removing street lights, roads signs and guard rails, as well as installing extra safety fencing.
