Several petrol pumps across Hull were inundated with panicked drivers yesterday leading to some stations completely running out. They had wanted to make sure their tanks were full amid worries of a UK fuel shortage. Click here for more traffic and travel news. Lengthy queues of drivers were seen snaking through many locations in Hull and East Yorkshire in the afternoon, which led to petrol stations being forced to shut in the evening after selling out. BP and Esso had recently said that they will be closing a “few locations” due a shortage in HGV drivers. This has prompted many people to fill up 'just in case'. BP has since confirmed that they have only closed five of their 'low-demand' location on Thursday and 20 on Friday, out of a 1,200 locations nationwide. The government calls for people to remain calm. They remind everyone that there would be no national shortage of fuel if everyone maintains their fuel buying habits and avoids 'stocking up'.
