‘Lorry strikes bridge’ on Stoneferry Road as police warn ‘avoid…

A key road in Hull has been blocked in both directions due to a bridge being struck by an HGV. The A1033 Stoneferry Road was shut to traffic in both directions due to the lorry hitting the railway bridge near Woodhall Street which has a height restriction of 4.6 metres or 15 feet. At about 1pm, the road was reported to be clear by traffic monitoring service Inrix which said: “Road cleared and traffic returned to normal, earlier bridge strike by vehicle on A1033 Stoneferry Road in both directions from A1165 Cleveland Street to Chamberlain Road.” However, the statement was then updated and Inrix reported the road was still shut in both directions. Witnesses reported recovery of the HGV was still taking place at around 1:50pm. In an earlier statement, Humberside Police said: “Please be aware Stoneferry Road is currently closed at the Mount Pleasant and Cleveland Street roundabout whilst officers deal with single-vehicle road traffic collision. “Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.” 16:33 Sofie Jackson Witness says situation is unchanged “I left work at 4pm and it’s literally still the same now.
