M18 motorists warned of closure for repairs after fatal lorry fire

Drivers planning on using the M18 motorway have been advised to seek alternative routes while repairs are carried out following a fatal crash. The southbound carriageway remains closed at junction 2 after a lorry crashed into the central reservation and burst into flames on Monday, August 15. A man, believed to be aged in his 60s, died at the scene. One lane is open on the northbound carriageway but National Highways has advised that the southbound carriageway is expected to remain closed until at least 10pm tonight (Tuesday, August 16). Read more: Driver killed in horror M18 lorry fire A National Highways spokesman said: “The damaged road surface on the southbound carriageway has been planed out and resurfacing is expected to start between 4pm and 5pm, with lane one due to reopen at around 10pm this evening. Emergency repairs are being carried out on the M18 (Image: National Highways) “Until then, southbound traffic will continue to be diverted along the exit and entry slip roads.
