M62 closure: Police officer and two men seriously hurt after major East Yorkshire accident

A police officer and two men have been seriously hurt after a crash on the M62 in East Yorkshire. The officer and two men had to be cut out of their vehicles by firefighters after the crash which happened at 11.34pm on Friday (September 3). The accident happened when a police response vehicle and a red Seat Ibiza collided on the eastbound carriageway of the M62, underneath the Finney's Lane bridge near West Cowick. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the police officer and two other men were seriously hurt and had to be cut from their vehicles. For the latest on this breaking news, follow our live blog They said: “Crews from Selby and neighbouring appliance Goole responded to reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a police response vehicle and a Seat Ibiza. “One Male officer was extricated from the vehicle with serious injuries and transported to hospital. Four male occupants in Seat Ibiza, two of which were out upon our arrival. “Crews extricated the other two males who were then taken to hospital by ambulance. Find the latest traffic news near you “The crews used edraulic cutters, stabilisation equipment, lighting, sharps protection, reciprocating saw, IEC Kit, First aid, neck collars and small tools. Crews worked in partnership with Humberside Fire as the incident was just into their area.” One witness living nearby said the police car had collided with the motorway bridge. “I heard the air ambulance flying over,” they said. “I could see at least four fire engines there.” The M62 remains closed in both directions between J34 and J35 after a crash involving a police car (Image: Sean Stewart) Police are continuing to investigate at the scene, with cones in place across the carriageway.
