Man in hospital with serious injuries after crash at busy Hull city centre junction

A man is in hospital with serious injuries following an alleged hit and run which closed Hull's main city centre junction for several hours. The injured male was discovered by ambulance staff in Ferensway at 6.49am on Thursday. He was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, Humberside Police said. Click here for more Hull traffic and travel news A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance member of staff came across an injured male believed to have been involved in a road traffic collision at 6.49am. “An additional ambulance was dispatched and one person was taken for treatment at Hull Royal Infirmary.” Police vehicles at the scene at Ferensway (Image: Katie Pugh) The junction between Beverley Road and Spring Bank was cordoned off by the police who stopped drivers and pedestrians from passing through using police tape and police vehicles to block the access. Forensic officers were at the scene for several hours laying out markers and carrying out investigations. During peak rush hour at 9am, long traffic queues formed down Spring Bank where cars were redirected. Pedestrians were unable to cross Ferensway at the Spring Bank junction and were required to walk down to the Hilton hotel to cross. A police spokesman said: “Emergency services are currently in attendance at a collision at the junction on Ferensway and Spring Bank in Hull. “Drivers are asked to avoid the area whilst road closures currently remain in place.” The man was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary Eyewitnesses believed the incident was a case of hit-and-run. One witness said: “I drove from Spring Bank to Beverley Road at 6.45am this morning and there was a person who had been hit by a car on that corner. Two ambulances were already present on scene.” Humberside Police confirmed the junction was reopened more than seven hours later at 2.45pm.
