Moment motorbike whizzed through Hull park after nearly ‘taking out’…

A man walking through a Hull park caught a motorcyclist on camera dangerously careering over a footbridge after “nearly taking him out”. On Thursday lunchtime (February 23), local resident Mr Gilchrist was walking through East Park, as he often does to maintain his fitness. As he left the toilet, a motorcyclist with no helmet on whizzed past him, narrowly avoiding hitting him. Mr Gilchrist filmed the biker driving across the grass, before making their way towards a footbridge, where an elderly couple were walking their dog. Although nobody was hurt at that time, Mr Gilchrist was appalled, but not shocked, as he often sees such behaviour. I do a lot of walking as part of getting fit and I see things like this quite often. “Fortunately, I managed to get this on cam. I think it would have been more scary for the elderly couple on the bridge with their dog.” This wasn’t the first time Mr Gilchrist has witnessed anti-social behaviour on motorbikes, as just the day before he claimed to have seen other motorcyclists putting pedestrians at risk. He continued: “The day before yesterday, it was two motorbikes driving on the wrong side of the road, and through a red light at the junction on Southcoates Lane and Holderness Road, while pedestrians were crossing the road.” Some days before that, a photo was taken on Saltshouse Road in east Hull of two youths on a moped. A despairing motorist warned: “No wonder kids like this get killed”, after claiming they had undertaken her car and mounted the path. Both fed-up commenters and Mr Gilchrist said they weren’t convinced much was or could be done to solve the issue. “The police don’t or can’t do anything about it,” said Mr Gilchrist. “That’s why you have idiots wheeling bikes down the wrong side of Holderness Road, playing chicken with cars.” However, police and politicians claim they are determined to tackle the issue. On Sunday, Humberside Police urged long-suffering residents on the estate to report any crime or antisocial behaviour (ASB) so that they could deal with it. In an extensive interview with Hull Live, the force said it had seen a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour when compared to pre-Covid levels and was adamant that the approach being taken was working, with positive feedback from residents.
