A tearaway young driver who crashed his Mini Cooper head-on into another car while trying to flee from the police has been jailed after being branded a “menace on the road”. Banned driver Nathan Wilds sped off in a doomed bid to “get clean away from the police” after they spotted him using his mobile phone and illuminated their flashing blue lights. The “dreadful” episode was his third offence of dangerous driving and he had failed to learn his lesson after previously being locked up for an earlier offence, Hull Crown Court heard. Wilds, 22, of Inglemire Lane, Hull, admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving while using a mobile phone, having no insurance and two offences of driving with traces of cocaine and cannabis in his system on January 14. They activated their blue flashing lights and followed him. Wilds indicated left as though he was going to stop and began to slow down, but he pulled back into the road and increased his speed.
