Northern announce flash sale with £1 train tickets – and kids can travel for 50p

Rail operator Northern is giving people the chance to travel across the county for just £1. As part of a flash sale, Northern is making more than a million advance purchase tickets available for £1 from Tuesday, August 24, with children able to travel for 50 pence. Those taking advantage of the offer will experience travel on a transformed network, says Northern – which has more than 540 northern destinations to choose from – after 18 months spent making significant improvements. Read more: The young Hull artist bringing landmarks to life with embroidery The Northern network takes in the Hull to Scarborough line and also routes to Leeds, York, Doncaster and Sheffield, and all across the north as far afield as Nottingham and Newcastle. Northern has introduced 101 new trains, completed the refurbishment of its older trains, and delivered millions of pounds worth of improvements at stations, including the installation of more than 600 ticket machines, and improved accessibility features at many locations.
