Motorists are being warned of a series of overnight closures planned for Hull's busiest road starting next week. Both carriageways on a section of the A63 running through the city centre between Daltry Street and Roger Millward Way will be closed overnight on Monday, August 8, and Tuesday, August 9. The closures will allow contractors to install new lighting columns around the new Porter Street pedestrian bridge which now spans Castle Street. This will be followed by overnight closures of the westbound carriageway to stabilise ground conditions ready for construction of a new underpass which will form part of a new-look Mytongate junction. They will take place from Monday to Friday during the week starting on August 15 and from Monday to Thursday in the following week. Ahead of the construction work on the underpass, 40 large steel cages are due to be delivered to the works compound in Porter Street on the Thornton estate. These will eventually be lowered into the ground and be filled with concrete to create the walls for the underpass which is being constructed to a depth of seven metres.
