Police name man killed in M1 double fatal crash as Hull driver is bailed

A man who died following a collision on the M1 which resulted in the arrest of a Hull driver has been named. Emergency services were called to J34, just north of the Tinsley Viaduct at 8.15am on Friday, after reports of a three-vehicle crash involving a silver Ford Focus, a silver Ford transit van and a lorry. Two men died following the crash and South Yorkshire Police have now formally named one of the victims as 44-year-old Jason Mercer, believed to be from Rotherham. The Hull driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail.  A police spokeswoman said: “Mr Mercer’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
