Police update on rooftop standoff after ‘stolen’ car ends up in hedge

Humberside Police have confirmed that at least one person has been arrested in connection to a car theft on Ings estate which has led to a dramatic rooftop standoff. A Vauxhall Corsa was stolen from a driveway in Sutton Ings earlier this morning, before 7.30am. The vehicle's owner had only had the car for a couple of months. Click here for more Hull crime news. One of the individuals connected to the stolen car has been tracked down to a rooftop in Surbiton Close, where a standoff with police ensued and has been going on for several hours already. You can follow live updates on that here. A police negotiator has attended the scene since around 11am and Humberside Fire and Rescue also arrived shortly after 11.30am. Residents were also told to stay indoors. Individual on a roof in Surbiton Close on Friday morning. “This is an ongoing incident and I can confirm we are in attendance in the area where a youth has taken to the roof of a property,” said a Humberside Police spokeswoman. “The incident is related to reports that a suspected stolen vehicle was seen driving erratically around 9am this morning in Hull. “Our enquiries are continuing and one person has been arrested at this time. “Log 140 of today refers and anyone with information can call us on 101 and quote this log.” The stolen Vauxhall Corsa was abandoned in a field near to Surbiton Close. It was damaged having been driven into a metal barrier. There has been a heavy police presence in the Sutton Ings area since about 9am as reports flowed in of the stolen vehicle being “driven erratically”. An eyewitness reported seeing “at least ten police cars” in the area, while a police helicopter circled overhead. Resident Claire Greaves spoke to Hull Live at around 11am about the heavy police presence in Sutton Ings. “They have been here around two hours,” she said. Local resident Claire Greaves said the police had been in Surbiton Close area since about 9am.
