Striking rail workers in Hull say the public are firmly behind their walk-out in an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions. Today marked the second day of a 48-hour strike by members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union. Another two-day strike will start on Friday with two further 48-hour strikes scheduled for the first week in January. Speaking on a picket line outside of Paragon Station today, the RMT’s Hull rail branch chairman Mike Keal said: “The support from the public has been rock solid. I’ve nearly worn out my hand because of the number of people wanting to shake it. This is all about trying to ensure fair pay and conditions during a cost-of-living crisis. “I also think people are starting to see it’s not just rail workers who are having to stand up and be counted.
