A young swan getting hit by a car led to three police officers attending a street in Anlaby today, with a witness saying the road was closed. Cayley Road was reportedly closed to traffic shortly after 1pm after the cygnet was struck and was then unable to move away. There are no nearby lakes so it is possible the animal was confused or lost. Photographs taken by a witness show a police car part-blocking the street and three officers attending the scene, keeping an eye on the young swan which was on its feet but not straying from the area. It's believed police were waiting for wildlife specialists to take the swan away because they are notoriously difficult to catch and their strong wings can pose a danger to rescuers. “We watched for a few mins, asked if it was okay and was told it had been hit,” the witness said. “We left because there was a few people there already plus three police officers so assumed they didn’t need us.
