Sensors have been installed on one of Hull’s busiest roads in a bid to ease congestion and improved safety while also helping to avoid lorries crashing into a notorious bridge. The innovative technology has been installed on the Stoneferry Road corridor in a UK first. Hull City Council, working with leading highway and transport technological solutions expert Clearview Intelligence, have installed several technologies to support the major improvements completed in November. The technology includes ‘intelligent road studs’ at five intersections along the route to help ensure cyclists and motorists look out for each other. The studs, located at the top of each intersection with Stoneferry Road, are connected to a system that detects a cyclist’s approach which activates an illuminated sign to warn motorists.
