Two men are in hospital after becoming trapped in a smoke-filled flat above a Spring Bank takeaway. Both are in Hull Royal Infirmary after a blaze broke out in the Pudding Co building at around 6am, Humberside Fire and Rescue confirmed. Fire crews battled a “developing fire and large amounts of smoke” to rescue the men trapped inside the terraced commercial building, while nearby properties were evacuated. Fire service watch manager Neil Bettney said: “We were called to reporters of smoke coming from a property in Spring Bank just after 6am. “Crews were confronted with a developing fire and large amounts of smoke. “The priority was to rescue those trapped inside the flat and two adult males were led to safety. They have been taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.” He added: “We also had to evacuate residents in neighbouring properties. There were five fire engines, an aerial platform and drones in use. “The fire took hold in the roof space and the crews worked hard and did a fantastic job of preventing the fire spreading to adjoining properties. “We will remain fit much of the day and the road will remain closed for a few hours.
