A new government scheme that caps Stagecoach bus fares in Hull and East Yorkshire at £2 for a single journey has launched. The Bus Fare Cap Grant scheme is a government-funded scheme being introduced on most single (including child and student) bus journeys across England from January 1, 2023 until March, 31 2023. It is part of the Department for Transport’s new fares initiative through the government’s Help for Households campaign. The new scheme is a response to the cost of living crisis which is hoped will allow people to save money and “travel for less”. Bus services have faced pressure with costs as utility costs increased by more than 40% since 2019-20, with the price of tyres increasing by 18%. It’s true. “You can take a single journey and never pay more than £2*.
