Storm Otto blows tree across major Hull road – live…
Strong winds are disrupting traffic and travel across Hull and East Yorkshire this morning (Friday). Storm Otto could bring gusts “in excess of 75mph” to the North of England, the Met Office said. A “huge” tree has been blown across Boothferry Road near the Costello lights, a witness said. The Humber Bridge is currently closed to high-sided vehicles and wind-vulnerable vehicles, such as motorcycles and cars towing trailers. Meanwhile, a cyclist took to the Hull Traffic and Travel group to warn others, claiming: “I was on the cycle path and got blew into the road, nearly had to jump off”. Further afield, accidents were causing disruption on the motorway network. On the A1, a heavy goods vehicle tipped over after being caught in strong winds. A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The A1M in North Yorkshire is closed northbound between J51 Leeming and J52 Catterick due to a collision involving an overturned heavy goods vehicle.” Hull has recorded wind gusts of 50mph, but the forecast looks better later today. High winds should subside later on this afternoon, the Met Office said.
